We celebrated Olivia's 1st birthday today with a party that couldn't have been sweeter. The weather was absolutely perfect, despite a forecast that had us a little worried. We were able to set up tables and toys outside and even brought out the baby sunscreen for the first time this year! It was fabulous!
Olivia was a perfect party girl. She was playful and happy and engaged in everything happening around her. She was happy to join in with all the kids buzzing around, gobbled up her lunch of tiny sized cheeseburger pieces, baked beans, cucumber and watermelon before we presented her with her birthday cake. She smiled away as everyone gathered around to sing her "Happy Birthday" (twice). And when the cake was set in front of her, she looked to us for the "ok" to dig in. And dig in she did! She smashed and squished the cake in her hands before ever realizing she could actually eat it. We gave her a taste from our finger and from that point on, she was unstoppable! She absolutely LOVED it. Handful after handful, a quick sugar shake and then continued on until we realized we would need to take it away or should we never stop!! When it was being taken away, she quickly plucked off 3 more colored dots of frosting and gobbled them up. The girl has got a sweet tooth!
After cake it was time for gifts. We spread out a blanket in the yard and surrounded Olivia with all the beautiful, generous gifts from family and friends :) She gave kisses to almost everything after opening it - her way of showing her love and appreciation for each and every one. After gifts were opened, she practiced a few steps in between me and my mom and smiled for a few more photo opps before heading in for a nap.
