I accomplished something today that I NEVER thought I would. Thanks to the motivation and support of my good friend, Kate, I signed up and ran (I use the word lightly) my first 5K!! I won't brag about my time because, I just don't want to be a bragger (yep, that's the reason)...but I will toot my own horn for accomplishing something I NEVER dreamed I would.
In my early teens, the mile day at school was the WORST day of the year for me. Running around that school track 4 times was like the most cruel punishment you could ever inflict upon me. Then in my later teens, I would run by choice, for exercise and for the thrill I got in seeing how quickly my endurance improved. Now, with 2 kids and a job that keeps me behind a desk for 40 hours a week, I turn to jogging as a way to get out, release some stress and do something good for ME. And most of the time, I really enjoy it. I CANNOT say I enjoyed each mile of the 5K. In fact, there were times that I was relating it to the pain and agony of child birth. But much like child birth, I was able to forget about the pain very soon after it was over and look back on the whole experience with a feeling of accomplishment.
Emilia even got into the spirit and ran the kiddie race! It took a lot of coaxing, but when the time came, she agreed to run it with Kate as her motivator too :)
To make the run even more "rewarding", I won a drawing for a SWEET new Mountain Buggy Terrain jogging stroller valued at $500!!! I couldn't believe it when they called my name. I ran up onto the stage, did a little jog to test it out and then Jeff handed Olivia up to me so she could try out her new wheels. I put her in stroller and everyone in the crowd gave their "awwwws" of approval :) Should I take this prize as a sign that I should keep running? We'll see :)
