Up North!

We just got back from a great little fall family getaway up the North Shore of Lake Superior with my parents. The guys spent their days living the dream - scuba diving some of the great wreaks of Lake Superior and the girls kept busy back at the Fjord.
Here are some of our favorite memories:

After getting settled in, the guys were off for a dive so my Mom and I took our little explorer on a walk to the calm, rocky cove. Emilia wasted no time getting busy filling her hands with as many rocks as she could hold on to. Then, we showed her how to throw the rocks into the lake. This is the best way we could think of to encourage them away from her mouth!

The next morning, we started out the day with my Dad's delicious French Toast and a couple servings of Praise Baby. Emilia could not get enough of these adorable, feel good DVD's :) She would get so excited and start clapping, giggling and stomping when she heard the music. She has gotten so good at copying the kids, animals and objects that they show with the music. She mimics faces, makes animal sounds, says the names of familiar objects and even says, "weeee" when a little girl jumps into the pool. These DVD's are a lifesaver for the mornings when the coffee hasn't kicked in yet :)

The next day, we met the guys at the Gooseberry Falls State Park for lunch on the Lake Front where we braved the winds off of Lake Superior at a picnic table right on the rocky shore! Jeff got to introduce Emilia (the future scuba diver) to all the MN Scuba people there for the dive that day.

Later that day, we hooked up Emilia's bike trailer to Jeff's bike and took off with intentions of making it to Split Rock State Park - about 3 miles away...we didn't quite make it though. The hills were a lot to handle with the winds and the bike trailer :) We finished up our ride by taking advantage of a photo opp on the HUGE Adirondack chairs at the lodge entrance. To warm up after our crisp fall ride, we headed over to the pool and hot tub. We had a great time showing all the things we had learned in swim lessons and just floating around.

The next day, we got messy during a little art project complete with tag board, construction paper, washable paint and sponges from the hardware store in town! I have to say, Emilia DID NOT LIKE having dirty, paint covered hands. We had to take breaks to wash them throughout the project because she would shiver from the "icky" feeling and cry until I brought her over to the sink for a quick wash :) The artwork is priceless and we love having our memory of her first art project on our trip!

That night, we got to introduce Emilia to a camp fire complete with SMORES! Yum! Emilia LOVES to be outside and didn't mind the cooler weather at all! She busily walked everywhere herself...even up a hill! It's amazing how she takes on new challenges with such excitement.

We had a great time escaping from the demands of day to day life and focusing on what is really most important...each other. Thank you, Mom and Dad!
