No pain, no gain :)

Emilia and I had appointments this weekend to get vaccinated from H1N1. It's all we've been hearing about on the news this year, so we were happy to get in and get vaccinated so that this this bug can skip on by us!

We got Emilia up from her nap and all ready to go to our appointment. She wanted to wear her sparkly "Dorothy" shoes and insisted on bringing along Toto AND her basket. She proudly marched out of her room after getting everything together and announced to Daddy, "I'm Dorothy!" while posing and waiting for him to look and smile at her :) She was quite the hit at the clinic as well...a nice distraction to why everyone was there. There weren't any other clinic visitors with glittery red shoes on that afternoon.

When it was time to go in for our shots, Emilia was scared. I "bravely" went first. I don't look at needles going into me... So this time, I focused on Emilia and her reaction to me getting a shot. It was not the look she has when giving me "smokes" (this is what she calls shots) at home. When we "play doctor" she is very brave and always the one reassuring me that "It's okay, Mommy. All better now." So, right after my band-aid was on, it was her turn. She sat in my lap and we got her little thigh exposed. It was a quick poke, a real cry and a nice distraction offered by the nurse asking her if she liked stickers and ice cream, to which she replied, still crying, "Yes!" She picked out a sticker with a kitty on it, was handed a coupon for a free DQ kids cone and put them both in her basket before retrieving the half of piece of Trident that was waiting for her after the shot.

We talked about her shot on the way out of the clinic and how brave she was and how she only cried for a second and then she was all better. We got into the car and headed across the street to the DQ. No pain, no gain...right :)
