Weekend at Grandma and Grandpa's

This weekend, Emilia and I headed to Marshfield for Kate's baby shower :) We were all psyched up to attempt our first long trip, just the two of us, in over two years. Two years ago - Emilia was all comfy, cozy in her infant car seat, happy just looking out the back window between snoozes. Now, at nearly 2 1/2, car rides are a little more interesting. I get MANY more requests from the backseat...

I need my baby.
I need to color.
I need some gum, please.
I need Pickalicious.
I need a snack, please.
I want a song. I want somethin' elses song... Louder.

All of these are fair requests...but once you have fulfilled each of these requests...and half of them have been thrown on the floor in the backseat out of reach as you drive 65+ mph down the freeway...things have the potential to get pretty tricky...

Well - as it turns out, Emilia and I never set out on our adventure alone...there was a BIT of a mis-communication and my mom ended up driving all the way to Minneapolis on her Friday off to drive home with us and then back again on Sunday. Emilia was thrilled to wake up from nap to Grandma in her room and we both enjoyed the extra company in the car :)

Saturday afternoon, Emilia, Grandma and I headed to Kira's for Kate's baby shower. It is always so fun to meet up with old friends and pick up right where you left off...just now, we're onto different topics than we were 10 years ago :) Two of my closest friends from high school, Kate and Kira are both about to become first time mom's. Kira - due just 2 days before me - in April and Kate - due in January,

Emilia and Kate's niece Molly...a moment of sharing.

The weekend was great. I always love to be home. We pulled out a bunch of my old toys and really have a blast remembering all the fun I had with them when I was little. A few of the toys that Emilia loved most over the weekend...

My Buddy, Dolly Pops Fashion Show, Muppet Babies Board Game and the Jeep Power Wheels.

Power Wheels -powered by Grandpa!

So the question I always ask myself is "when do requests while driving stop?" Here I sit with an almost 4 year old and they are still very very frequent... Oh well, one day we will miss the questions and requests from the backseat...
