After letting her wake up a little, I asked if she wanted to do a project. I told her we needed to make Valentine's for daycare and helped her up into her spot at the counter. I had jotted down a list of each child's name and laid out their letters to make sure we had a letter ready for everyone. Emilia looked at all the cut out hearts and started to dictate who should have which color. Then, she spotted the glittery letters that represented each of her friends names. To my amazement, she spouted out which letter belonged to each friend without skipping a BEAT! She pointed to them one by one and recited, "Katherine, Angelina, Chiara, Sienna, Thomas, Ben, Sam, David." It is so, so fun to see how much she is learning and how she is able to apply it. After we were done sticking each letter onto a decorated Valentine, she had me take a picture of her holding each one. Here's ONE of the 10. What a ham.
Beyond knowing what all of her friends name's start with, she can also spell her name out loud. "E-m-i-l-i-a." For a while, she was leaving out the second "i" and I would tell her, "Close, but it's 'i-a'" to which she would respond, "I can say it how I want!" Such a strong will and not too open to the constructive criticism. Well, she's got it down pat now and she gets the biggest smile on her face after resiting it correctly and getting a big applause from us. Time to start working more on writing out her whole name and not just the "E". I'm sure she'll surprise me again and pick it up in no time :)
